TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Teaching Philosophy Statement
Education is not only a process where students learn the subjects, memorize theories, sit for examinations and finally graduate from their universities of colleges with degrees or diplomas. Education is a long life process which helps to develop ones mind and character. I strongly feel that, the main role of an educator is not only to teach a subject and the main role of the students is not only to take notes and listen to the lecture. I view learning as a two way process which needs contributions from both parties involved: the educator and the students. Both parties must enter the lecture hall/ classroom with preparations, both need to contribute ideas and share knowledge and finally both must be able to accept and respect each other ideas and comments professionally. In class, the role of an educator is to facilitate the teaching and learning process. On the other hand the students must always be ready to share their ideas and knowledge wherever they are asked to do so. If teaching and learning process is dominated by the educator only or when there is no participation from the students, the teaching and learning process will become dull and uninteresting. Therefore, both parties need to play their roles in order to make sure that the dissemination of knowledge is viewed as something interesting and dynamic not dull and boring. I also believe that a good relationship between the educator and the students is very important. We must always treat our students with respect and without prejudice regardless of their age, religions, beliefs, culture or races. We must not see ourselves as someone who is superior than our students but as someone who is given the responsibility to help and guide them whenever they need us. In addition we must also remember that as an educator we need to be professional and never let our emotion controls our actions ; especially in dealing with difficult students. As educators, the main focus of our teaching should aim to produce excellent students who can uphold personal integrity in all aspects of their lives. Therefore apart from making sure that our students understand the subjects that we taught, it is very crucial for us to instill into them the good qualities of life through our teaching.

TEACHING GOALS

Teaching Goals Statement
To make sure students are able to apply the knowledge that they have gained in working life
