TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Teaching Philosophy Statement
I believe that we, teachers are all engaged in the continuous learning process, a fundamental way of sharing ideas, perspectives, and experiences, and of giving and receiving counsel. in the didactic triangular encounter of teacherstudentsubject, the main role of the teacher remains to be guidance given to the students, while allowing them to discover the facts for themselves. I further believe that effective learning comes from interactive teaching which must be made interesting to the students, and the best pedagogic encounter is questions from everyone rather than just answering to all. the role of a better teacher is to perform and put up a presentation at his best on the stage of the classroom which needs interpersonal skills of effective teaching through instructional strategy, professional knowledge, internal and external reflective practice. through this, teaching becomes dynamic and acceptable to every student as each one is different from other.
For Semester (Sept 2023 - Feb 2024) AND (Mac 2024 - August 2024)

As a senior lecturer specializing in Civil Engineering, with a focus on Reinforced Concrete and Steel Design (ECS338) and Inventive Technologies in Construction Business (CBM705), my teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in fostering a dynamic learning environment that integrates theory with practical application. My overarching goal is to inspire students to become critical thinkers, innovative problem-solvers, and ethical professionals equipped to address the challenges of the construction industry.

Holistic Learning Approach: I believe in adopting a holistic approach to teaching, recognizing that students come from diverse backgrounds and possess varying learning styles. In my classroom, I strive to create an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported. By incorporating a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, case studies, and hands-on projects, I cater to different learning preferences, ensuring that each student has the opportunity to excel.

Practical Relevance: I am committed to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications. In ECS338 and CBM705, I emphasize the practical aspects of reinforced concrete and steel design, as well as innovative technologies in construction business. By integrating industry trends, case studies, and guest lectures from professionals, I provide students with valuable insights into current practices and emerging technologies. This approach not only enhances their understanding of the subject matter but also prepares them for successful careers in the field.

Active Engagement: I believe that active engagement is essential for effective learning. In my classes, I encourage active participation through interactive discussions, group activities, and problem-solving exercises. By fostering a collaborative learning environment, I empower students to engage with course material actively, ask questions, and exchange ideas. This not only reinforces their understanding of key concepts but also cultivates important teamwork and communication skills that are vital for success in the construction industry.

Continuous Improvement: As an educator, I am committed to continuous improvement both in my teaching practices and in the content of my courses. I regularly seek feedback from students to identify areas for improvement and incorporate new teaching strategies and resources to enhance the learning experience. I also stay updated on the latest developments in the fields of reinforced concrete design, steel design, and construction technologies, ensuring that my teaching remains relevant and up-to-date.

Ethical and Professional Development: In addition to technical knowledge, I believe it is crucial to instill ethical values and professional integrity in my students. In ECS338 and CBM705, I emphasize the importance of ethical conduct, sustainability, and responsible decision-making in the construction industry. By integrating discussions on ethical dilemmas, industry standards, and professional codes of conduct into the curriculum, I help students develop a strong ethical framework that will guide their actions as future professionals.

In summary, my teaching philosophy revolves around creating a dynamic, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that fosters critical thinking, practical relevance, and ethical awareness. Through a combination of theoretical instruction, hands-on learning experiences, and continuous improvement, I strive to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to excel in the ever-evolving field of civil engineering and construction.

TEACHING GOALS

Teaching Goals Statement
-To maintain a course of study well-founded in ethical knowledge and behavior consistent with the high aims of the civil engineering profession; -To maintain a quality course of study recognized by professional peers nationwide; -To maintain a quality course of study that integrates the important concepts of design throughout the entire curriculum preparing students for immediate practice upon graduation; -To maintain a quality course of study which will qualify students for graduate school; -To continually enhance the teaching effectiveness of the civil engineering faculty; -To enhance the professional qualifications of the civil engineering faculty through professional development and scholarly activity; -To extend academic opportunities of students to include participation in undergraduate research and development programs; -To encourage the professional development of students including an understanding of an engineer's responsibilities of good citizenship and service through participation in engineering, professional, and honorary societies and other activities; -To recruit and retain highly qualified students to serve the needs of the civil engineering profession.
