TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Teaching Philosophy Statement
As an educator, I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity given to me to help learners shape their own intellectual wealth. It is my utmost delight to see them grow professionally and personally.Teaching is an exciting adventure in which both the teacher and the students participate. Effective teaching not only involves being passionate about a subject, but being able to convey it to students in such a way that they will understand it, but additionally, be able to then think about the subject and apply it in some way to their lives. Occasionally I hear from students that they find it difficult to attach concepts to their own lives. I try, in my teaching, to give students a 'take home' message in what they learn. I bring in current events, local, national and international, whenever possible so that students may link what they learn in class with the world around them.

Teaching Goals Statement
I believed that the learning process is the best when it has a collaborative interaction between students and the instructor. It is my expectation that students not only learn from me and from each other, but that I learn from them as well. The connection and energy established between my students and me is a powerful teaching technique that I utilize in creating an optimal learning experience. By sharing with them my teaching objectives, students know that I am invested in them. My role as the instructor is not only a source of knowledge, but also a source of support and an avenue for other resources. True learning involves active thinking. The best classrooms are those where both the teacher and the students learn from each other. I believed in being fair as an educator, which to me means being able to understand what students are going through as individuals and as students. It means treating students with an impartial attitude, but not an uncaring attitude.
